ELK COUNTY, Pa. (WJAC) — Friday night, St. Marys City Council voted against a proposed mobile methadone clinic.
Methadone is a medication used to treat those addicted to opioids.
Council voted 4-3 against bringing a mobile methadone clinic that would have been operated by Discovery House CU, LLC.
Council member Shane Schneider voted in favor of the clinic.
He said Discovery House officials presented evidence as to why the clinic should be allowed to operate in the city.
If they decide to appeal council's decision in court, there's a chance Discovery House could win and the city would lose all of the provisions they were asking for.
Council member Stephen Bagley voted against the clinic.
"Talking to members of the community, many of them have approached me called me to express their wish that this not be approved overwhelmingly,” said Bagley. I feel it’s my duty to follow their wishes."
The proposed facility would have been operated at 1300 Brusselles Street.
