CONEMAUGH TOWNSHIP- The grand opening of the St. Francis Caring & Sharing Food Pantry and Thrift Store is this week.
The store has moved from two buildings to one, now allowing it to save money and give more back to the community.
A supervisor at the store said they have been trying to move into the new building, located on Stevens Lane in Hollsopple, since 2006.
It was late February when Kim Showalter said someone gave a donation for the land to move the store all under one roof.
“We were paying utilities on two different buildings. Now we’re under one roof and it gives us the opportunity to pay expenses on one building and utilize expenses for our community,” Showalter said.
Inside the new store including a variety of items including jewelry, clothing, shoes, toys and household items.
“Our prices are a lot less expensive and the money stays right here in the community.”
This week is the store’s grand opening where there were plenty of volunteers inside to help organize donations and the store.
There’s also a 50/50 raffle gift certificates and refreshments to celebrate.
Showalter said the money raised in the store goes to buying food in the pantry and to offer assistance to those in Conemaugh Township.
The store’s hours are Monday-Friday 9-3 p.m and Saturday from 10-2 p.m.
