Members of the Chickaree Ridge Runners Snowmobile Club held an event Sunday looking to raise money for one of the club members fighting a rare form of cancer. Organizers of the annual Snowmobile Poker Run said many members of the club are not being deterred by not being able to hop on a snowmobile, but the weather may have thinned the crowd a little. Blair Co., PA (WJAC) — Altoona is one of eight UPMC hospitals being recognized as a 2023-24 high performing hospital for maternity care by U.S. News and World Report. This is the highest award a hospital can get, and less than half of the nearly 680 hospitals evaluated received a high performing designation. Across its hospitals with obstetric services, UPMC delivers close to 25,000 babies each year. Officials say staff in the labor and delivery department don’t view the expectant parents as just patients, but as family and friends.

Centre Co., PA (WJAC) — Authorities in Centre County say a Woodward-area woman pleaded "no contest" Friday afternoon in the stabbing death of her former boyfriend last April. Investigators say Brittany Guisewhite, 28, was accused of stabbing Robert Farwell during an argument at her home along Mountain Ave. Guisewhite made repeated claims of self-defense, as well as claims of PTSD and Battered Woman Syndrome. Officials say Guisewhite faces up to eight years in state prison as part of the plea bargain.

Donning a black and red #34 jersey of his late father, Pittsburgh Steelers veteran defensive lineman Cameron Heyward was emotional Sunday afternoon as he addressed the media following the team's 19-16 victory over the Atlanta Falcons. Heyward told reporters that the win meant much more to he and his family as his late father, Craig "Ironhead" Heyward, had spent three seasons with the Falcons in the mid-90s and Sunday's game was a family reunion of sorts for the Heywards.

BRADY TOWNSHIP, Pa. (WJAC) — One man is dead after a car versus motorcycle crash on Route 219 in Clearfield County Thursday. Officials say the crash happened just before 2:30 p.m. on Carson Hill Road, which is also Route 219, just south of Ace Valley Road in Brady Township. Police say a motorcycle operated by 77-year-old John Weber crossed into the opposite lane and collided with another vehicle. The driver of the car was taken to the hospital for suspected minor injuries, police say.
