Johnstown Redevelopment Authority continues demolition of blighted properties

Johnstown, PA (WJAC) — The Johnstown Redevelopment Authority celebrated the demolition of another blighted property Thursday. The residential building, located at 1127 Ridge Avenue, s one of 19 properties being turned into greenspaces thanks to state funding secured by Senator Wayne Langerholc. Sen. Langerholc says it's important to get rid of the buildings, not only for safety, but to make space available for parks and playgrounds. Executive director Melissa Komar says state and federal money has helped reduce blight a lot faster.

Organization designated hate group plans holiday party in Altoona

ALTOONA, Pa. (WJAC) -- The group Keystone United has circulated a flier online detailing its upcoming yule party. The Southern Poverty Law Center designated Keystone United a hate group, saying they formed in 2001 as the Keystone State Skinheads and have since changed their name. Blair County NAACP President Donald Witherspoon said he was hoping this type of gathering was a thing of the past. “I experienced some racial discrimination in the '60s and the '70s and when I went to the military, I also experience some stuff,” Witherspoon said.

Route 271 reopens after Blacklick Township crash

BLACKLICK TOWNSHIP, Pa. (WJAC) — UPDATE: Authorities say Route 271 in Blacklick Township has reopened to all traffic. ORIGINAL STORY: A Wednesday morning crash has shut down all lanes of Route 271 in Blacklick Township. According to PennDOT, the crash happened sometime around 6:45 a.m. Lanes in both directions are closed between Plank Road and Expedite Road. Cambria County dispatch says the closure will last for several hours due to a sheared pole and wires.
