'It's a blessing:' Johnstown man paints house & pet portraits as holiday gifts

CAMBRIA COUNTY, Pa. (WJAC) — Alan Rauch of Johnstown spends his days making his visions come to life. "It's exciting to wake up in the morning and think about, 'Well, I have this great idea that I want to put on canvas.' That happens to me almost every day," he told 6 News. Over the last few months, Alan has been busy painting house and pet portraits, which many people have been ordering as Christmas gifts.

Bedford County officials announce spring drug roundup

BEDFORD COUNTY, Pa. (WJAC) — Several Bedford County law enforcement agencies came together Monday to announce the arrests of 22 people accused of felony possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance and related offenses. Authorities say members of six different Bedford County law enforcement agencies began serving the arrest warrants at 7 a.m. Monday after an investigation that spanned several months and involved controlled buys using undercover officers and confidential informants.

Ebensburg's 32nd annual potato fest remains unaffected by reported potato shortage

JOHNSTOWN, Pa. (WJAC) — The 32nd annual Potato Fest takes place this weekend in Ebensburg. This, even as reports show a shortage on potatoes. 6 News spoke with an official behind the potato fest and a local potato farmer about this - they say were not seeing much of a potato shortage locally and so the Potato Fest in Ebensburg will go on like it has in years past. “This weekend, on Saturday in Ebensburg is our annual Potato Fest,” said Danea Koss, a Community Development Director.

Indiana University of Pennsylvania unveils $90 million John J. and Char Kopchik Hall

Over 400 people showed up to celebrate the grand opening of the John J. and Char Kopchik Hall at the Indiana University of Pennsylvania during a ribbon cutting ceremony on Thursday. The building has been in construction since 2020 and cost $90 million. It has over 140 thousand square feet and will serve as the university’s science and mathematics hub. The building is named in honor of IUP graduates Dr. John and Char Kopchik who made a $23 million dollar donation to IUP in April of 2018.

Once popular cosmetology school in Cambria County brought back to life by new owners

JOHNSTOWN, Pa. (WJAC) — Johnstown area residents who are interested in cosmetology or barber school won't have to travel too far to get there anymore. That's because the L&D Academy Multicultural School of Beauty and Barber Science opened right along Bedford Street. "They won't have to go to Pittsburgh, Altoona, or Huntingdon." That's what David Jurcic, the Owner and Barber Director, said at their grand opening event on Sunday. "It's been a long time coming.
