WASHINGTON (TND) — TikTok and its parent company are suing to block a U.S. law that would force a nationwide ban of the social media app, according to a lawsuit filed on Tuesday. President Joe Biden signed legislation, which has been dubbed the Protecting Americans From Foreign Adversary Controlled Applications Act, in April. It gives TikTok's China-based parent company, ByteDance, nine months to sell it or face a nationwide prohibition in the U.

WASHINGTON (TND) — If they are lucky, some stargazers in America will reportedly be able to see a rare treat: Five planets in Earth's solar system will be aligned in the night sky this month. Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter, and Saturn will align, in that order, all in a row, in the predawn skies of the southeastern United States beginning on June 3, according to Sky & Telescope. The planets will be located starting in the low eastern sky and then stretch to the upper southern sky, according to materials provided by the publication.

(AP) — Apple on Tuesday unveiled its next generation of iPad Pros and Airs -- models that will boast faster processors, new sizes and a new display system as part of the company's first update to its tablet lineup in more than a year. The showcase at Apple’s headquarters in Cupertino, California, comes after the company disclosed its steepest quarterly decline in iPhone sales since the pandemic’s outset, deepening a slump that’s increasing the pressure on the trendsetting company to spruce up its products.

The Hollidaysburg Veterans Home honored 24 people and 28 organizations for their contributions Wednesday, thanking those that volunteer their time with veterans. 10 of those people spent more than 100 hours in 2023 with residents, including Volunteer of the Year Pattie Fromknecht, who had a whopping 272 hours. The guest speaker, Retired Brig. Gen. Maureen Weigl, thanked volunteers for their time, talents, and support of veterans. Weigl said, "You being here uplifts them every single time, just seeing that the community of care is there for them; that you didn't forget what they served and what they did to earn that respect, and make sure they're feeling like this is their home.

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (TND) — Missouri state Rep. Ben Baker, R-Neosho, said Friday his daughter and her husband were killed during a mission trip to Haiti. Rep. Baker wrote in a Facebook post that Davy and Natalie Lloyd were both killed during an attack by a Haitian gang. The couple was working on behalf of Missions In Haiti, an Oklahoma-based Christian organization, which reports a third missionary named Jude was also killed during the ambush.
