Longtime Cambria County Sheriff Bob Kolar has died

EBENSBURG, Pa. (WJAC) Cambria County Sheriff Bob Kolar, who was elected to six terms over a span of more than 20 years, has died. His death was first confirmed to 6 News by Cambria County Commissioner Tom Chernisky. A Facebook post on the Sheriff's Office website says he died Wednesday night.

"Always able to put a smile on your face, Sheriff Kolar served Cambria County with pride and fairness and will be deeply missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him," the Cambria County Sheriff's Office said on their Facebook page. "(Kolar) has become a deeply loved and well-known figure in the courthouse walls and beyond."

Kolar, a former Pennsylvania State Police trooper, was first elected as sheriff in 1998.

In 2017, Kolar received recognition for his work in clearing county streets of criminals from the U.S. Marshals Western Pennsylvania Fugitive Task Force for helping get around 150 criminals off of Cambria County streets during the first year of a joint program with their office.
