Local veterans home recognizes volunteers

The Hollidaysburg Veterans Home honored 24 people and 28 organizations for their contributions Wednesday, thanking those that volunteer their time with veterans. 10 of those people spent more than 100 hours in 2023 with residents, including Volunteer of the Year Pattie Fromknecht, who had a whopping 272 hours.

The guest speaker, Retired Brig. Gen. Maureen Weigl, thanked volunteers for their time, talents, and support of veterans.

Weigl said, "You being here uplifts them every single time, just seeing that the community of care is there for them; that you didn't forget what they served and what they did to earn that respect, and make sure they're feeling like this is their home."

This was the 42nd annual volunteer recognition ceremony held at the Hollidaysburg Veterans Home.
