Donning a black and red #34 jersey of his late father, Pittsburgh Steelers veteran defensive lineman Cameron Heyward was emotional Sunday afternoon as he addressed the media following the team's 19-16 victory over the Atlanta Falcons.
Heyward told reporters that the win meant much more to he and his family as his late father, Craig "Ironhead" Heyward, had spent three seasons with the Falcons in the mid-90s and Sunday's game was a family reunion of sorts for the Heywards.
Their father, who passed away at the age of 39 following a bout with cancer, was buried in suburban Atlanta.
During his postgame press conference, Heyward shared his emotions when his younger brother Connor scored the Steelers' only touchdown of the game in the second quarter.
“This morning, we woke up early and went to my dad’s grave,” Heyward said. “It kind of hit me when (Connor) scored. I was a complete mess. I don’t like to be a soppy person, but it was one of those moments.”
Older brother Cameron was no slouch either on Sunday, recording Pittsburgh's only sack of the game on the defensive drive that preceded the one that his brother scored on.
Cameron and Connor became the first pair of brothers to record a sack and a touchdown in the same game.
Heyward's full press conference can be found in the video below.
The Steelers, who won back-to-back games for the first time all season, now prepare for an AFC North matchup with their rival the Baltimore Ravens.
Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m. on Sunday.
