Center Twp., Pa.- The Pennsylvania State Police Troop A Major Crimes Team, along with the Indiana County District Attorney's Office and the Indiana County Coroner's Office are investigating a officer-involved shooting that killed a man.

According to the Pennsylvania State Police, a Trooper operating in a marked patrol unit attempted to conduct a traffic stop on a vehicle driven by an unidentified male, who police say was the only one in the vehicle, in the area of Yankeetown Avenue and Lockard Avenue Extension at approximately 11:55 Sunday night. That's when Troopers say the man took off and the pursuit began.

Troopers say the pursuit went on for several miles through both Center Township and Homer City Borough. During the pursuit, Troopers deployed hollow spike strips on the road in an attempt to stop the suspect, but he just kept on going.

Troopers say they encountered the suspect on U.S. Route 119 near Tide Road in Center Township, where a shooting occurred with the suspect. While no Troopers were hit, they ended up shooting the suspect. Officials say Troopers on scene rendered aid, but he died at the scene.

The suspect's name is being held withheld until next of kin can be notified.

During the investigation, the Troopers involved will be placed on administrative duties in accordance with Pennsylvania State Police policy.
